To my mind, 3 things make this track unique. First, the A section rhythm was derived from the international SOS signal, 2nd the song owes a big debt to the song Funky Miracle by The Meters, and finally, this recording was made remotely, in 3 different studios. These 3 unconnected things are connected because of the Shelter In Place, self-quarantine directive put into effect in NYC, which in turn resulted in the closure of the building where Hugh's recording studio is located. The main rhythm guitars were in fact the last thing recorded at Excello before complying with the midnight, building-closure request on 3/22/2020.

The SOS signal felt appropriate as models for the infection rate of Coronavirus and shortages of masks and ventilators were circulating (and escalating) on the news. The hat-tip to The Meters seemed appropriate because they are in the bloodstream of New Orleans, and as events were unfolding, I felt that a whole lot of New Yorkers and people around the country were suddenly getting acquainted with feelings akin to what New Orleanians must have been experiencing in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; namely, feeling afraid and with support from the federal government hanging as a question mark.
The remote recording aspect was just inherited with the situation. We couldn't come together to record but the 3 of us (Hugh Pool, Ken Rich & Keith Robinson) each have our own studios.
The result is new music and the debut recording of Hp+Kr2 and more will closely follow!
